Striving for "Perfection" in an Imperfect World

This isn’t our usual conversation at OCBN… but maybe it should be.
How many times have you stopped yourself from stepping forward because something wasn’t “just right”?
Not the right outfit. Not the right hair. Not the perfect lighting.
Or that one tiny detail no one else would ever notice… but somehow, it stops you.
We delay posting.
We rethink showing up.
We hesitate stepping into opportunities.
Sometimes we even turn to AI to “fix” the moment… adjusting an outfit, smoothing an image, perfecting something that was already real.
And yet, in the same breath, we say we value authenticity.
The Quiet Pressure of Showing Up
Let’s be honest.
Being in business comes with expectations.
There’s a certain image.
A certain level of polish.
A certain way we think we need to present ourselves to be taken seriously… to be relatable… to belong.
I’ve had countless conversations about it.
What to wear.
How to style your hair.
Whether your makeup is “right” for the room.
And while there’s nothing wrong with showing up at your best… when did “your best” become something so far removed from who you really are?
Authenticity vs Expectation
Somewhere between building a brand and building a business, many of us start editing ourselves.
We trade comfort for conformity.
We trade expression for expectation.
And maybe… just maybe… that’s where we lose a little bit of the magic.
Because real connection doesn’t come from perfection.
It comes from presence.
From honesty.
From showing up as you are, not as you think you should be.
A Small Rebellion
Maybe it’s an age thing.
Or maybe it’s something deeper.
But there’s a part of me that quietly rebels against it all.
The idea that success must come in stilettos.
That credibility is measured in perfectly styled hair and polished nails.
That professionalism has a dress code.
I find myself dreaming of something different.
Standing on a stage, speaking to thousands of entrepreneurs and successful business owners…
Barefoot.
No heels.
No shoes.
Just grounded, real, and fully present.
What If We Redefined “Ready”?
What if being “ready” didn’t mean being perfect?
What if it simply meant being willing?
Willing to show up.
Willing to share.
Willing to take the step, even when everything isn’t aligned.
Because the truth is…
Opportunities don’t wait for perfection.
Connections don’t require perfection.
Impact doesn’t come from perfection.
It comes from action.
An Invitation
At OCBN, we talk about connection, collaboration, and growth.
But maybe part of that journey is also unlearning the idea that we need to be flawless to belong.
Maybe it’s about building bridges where people feel safe to show up as they are.
Messy. Real. Human.
So here’s the question:
What would you do today if you stopped waiting to be perfect?
Connect. Collaborate. Create.
